Psychic Sons began as a three-piece vehicle for a handful of song sketches by Spatch (vocals, bass, keys), supported by Phillip Beard (acoustic guitar) and Erik Schmidt (drums). Once three of these songs were complete, Jay Zimmerman stepped in on violin to expand the sound in preparation for a recording session with Ben Riesman at Hi5 Recording. Soon after, Oz Gabrielli joined the group on lead guitar and bass as Spatch moved to keys to lead a batch of synth- and piano-driven rock tunes.
Heading into the COVID quarantine as a tight five-piece band with influences ranging from the College Rock era and ’90s Alt-Rock to Outlaw Country and ’60s Garage, Psychic Sons continued writing songs, practicing on Erik's back deck, and sharing sporadic audio-visual content.
In the years that followed, the band amassed upwards of twenty original songs with a variety of themes, including the passing of time, isolation, loss, personal victories, and the beauty of an outdoor fire with beers and friends.
Their latest release, the hooky heartbreaker “Town by Seven,” was recorded with John Boyle at Madhouse Records and is available on Bandcamp. Psychic Sons can be found performing at local venues like the Rusty Nail, bringing their blend of melody, grit, and reflection to every stage they play.
