Our Story
Psychic Sons began as a three-piece vehicle for a handful of song sketches by Spatch (vocals, bass, keys), supported by Phillip Beard (acoustic guitar) and Erik Schmidt (drums). Once the first three songs took shape...
Jay Zimmerman stepped in on violin to expand the sound in preparation for a recording session with Ben Riesman at Hi5 Recording. Soon after, Oz Gabrielli joined on lead guitar and bass as Spatch focused on keys and vocals to lead a growing set of keyboard-driven, string-forward, groove-laden rock tunes.
Heading into the pandemic as a tight five-piece with influences spanning college rock, ’90s alt-rock, outlaw country, and ’60s garage rock, Psychic Sons kept writing, practicing on Erik’s back deck, and sharing sporadic audiovisual content.
Over the years, the band has quietly built a catalog of originals that explore themes of time passing, isolation, loss, personal victories, life-altering road trips, and the simple beauty of an outdoor fire with beers and friends.
Their latest release, the hooky heartbreaker “Town by Seven,” was recorded with John Boyle at Madhouse Records and is available on Bandcamp. Psychic Sons can be found on local stages like the Rusty Nail and Dawson Street Pub, bringing their blend of melody, grit, warmth, and reflection wherever they play.
